An arcaded old square beats in the centre of Donostia's Old Quarter. Here is where the big festive events of the city are celebrated.
Nueva Square, La Constitución Square, 18 de Julio Square, and again La Constitución Square are the different names that this space surrounded by arcaded buildings has had. Among those buildings, we can stand out the former Town Hall and its emblematic clock. Although the square is usually calm, it fills up with people during the Santo Tomás Fair or during the events that open and close the festivity of San Sebastián.
Everybody walking or sitting at the pavements cafés surprises at one detail of this place, which the people from Donostia shorten and call 'la Consti': each balcony in the square is numbered. This evokes the times when the square was used as a bullring and the 147 balconies were the boxes.
