Bizkaia is the Basque territory with the highest contrasts. From the biggest Basque metropolis, with the Guggenheim Museum, to such beautiful natural spaces as San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. From small fishing ports to industrial areas, as well as towns with centuries of history, like Gernika or Elorrio.
- The Guggenheim Bilbao Museum (www.guggenheim-bilbao.es) is not only the great temple of contemporary art or an amazing building, by Frank O. Gehry; it is the example of how a museum can symbolise a city’s dynamism.
- Gernika (www.gernika-lumo.net) is a town closely related to history, due to the Assembly House and the mythic Tree of Gernika and due to the 1937 bombing. Nevertheless, it also has a special relationship with the present, through its weekly Monday market.
- The Biosphere Reserve of Urdaibai (www.urdaibai.org) covers a 10% of the Biscayan territory and it is located around d the Mundaka Estuary and its marshes. An area with environmental interest, but also sports and cultural importance.
